Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant (BBEPP)

Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant (BBEPP) is a flexible, diversified and independent pilot and demonstration facility for process development, scale-up and custom manufacturing of biobased products and processes. It operates from lab to multi ton scale. Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant performs the entire production chain in one single plant, from biomass feedstock up to final refined products. BBEPP combines technologies (biomass pretreatment, biocatalysis, green chemistry, fermentation, biorefining and downstream purification) for advanced manufacturing of biobased products utilising a wide spectrum of modular unit operations and a team of highly trained and experienced engineers and operators.

Implementation of a CirculAr economy Based on Recycled, reused and recovered Indium, Silicon and Silver materials for photovoltaic and other applications

The main vision of the H2020 CABRISS project is to develop a circular economy mainly for the photovoltaic, but also for electronic and glass industry. It will consist in the implementation of: (i) recycling technologies to recover In, Ag and Si for the sustainable PV technology and other applications; (ii) a solar cell processing roadmap, which will use Si waste for the high throughput, cost-effective manufacturing of hybrid Si based solar cells and will demonstrate the possibility for the re-usability and recyclability at the end of life of key PV materials. The developed Si solar cells will have the specificity to have a low environmental impact by the implementation of low carbon footprint technologies and as a consequence, the technology will present a low energy payback (about 1 year).The originality of the project relates to the cross-sectorial approach associating together different sectors like the Powder Metallurgy (fabrication of Si powder based low cost substrate), the PV industry (innovative PV Cells) and the industry of recycling (hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy) with a common aim : make use of recycled waste materials (Si, In and Ag). CABRISS focuses mainly on a photovoltaic production value chain, thus demonstrating the cross-sectorial industrial symbiosis with closed-loop processes.

It brings together 5 global process industries in 5 cross-sectorial clusters covering 5 key relevant sectors for Europe: steel, cement, minerals, chemicals & engineering. The EPOS objective is to develop a simple and single management tool for cross-sectorial industrial symbiosis; it provides a wide range of technological as well as organisational cluster solutions for making industry more efficient, more cost-effective, more competitive and more sustainable, across process sectors. The project focus is on good energy optimisation and management practice, based on the PDCA concept. Cloud-HRI: Cloud Based Human Robot Interaction

Project deals with multimodal Human Robot Interaction. Cloud Computing Technologies inspired a new domain called Cloud Robotics. Development of integrated programming environment for robotic systems in distributed approach give occasions for agent environment with learning abilities, incremental knowledge acquisition sharing for group of robots. The goal of basic research is study of artificial intelligent tools for intelligent robotics, basic research in the area of natural language processing and also the study of innovative software tools for distributive software systems in cloud environment. The focus will be given also to image processing, virtual reality and speech processing in intelligent robotics.

Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava

Project Sandwright was developed as diploma thesis by Adriana Debnarova at Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Since then it won several prices including the Archiprix award for the worlds best diploma project in field of architecture.The project reacts to the desert environment, characterized by problems such as a lack of resources and expanding desertification. In contrast to conventional building methods, this project relies upon an autonomous robot that uses materials and energy that abound in that location. The machine operates on the basis of 3-D printing techniques (Delta robot). It focuses sunlight using a lens, which is able to melt sand into a solid material. Emerging structure allows the creation of inhabitable spaces within the excavated interior of dunes. The project provides an opportunity to resist the advancing desert, while creating a space to live in areas where it would otherwise be impossible.

Tomas Bata University in Zlin

The Centre of Polymer Systems (CPS) is a top-ranking research establishment of Tomas Bata University in Zlin (TBU), which guarantees world-class parameters in polymer systems research and utilization of the state-of-the-art technologies. Since 2015 it has been seated in an entirely new building designed to measure the needs and objectives of the research centre. CPS employs 120 research specialists. Many of the staff members have also received various prestigious international awards.

During its relatively short period of existence, the CPS can be proud of more than one hundred utility models and patents and large number of publications. It is certainly also worth mentioning that in the recently published Survey of Activities of 48 Czech research centres, CPS ranked the 8th place.

The Faculty of Aeronautics was established in 2005 as the ninth Faculty of Technical University in Košice by merger of the Technical University in Košice and the Air Force Academy of General Milan Rastislav Štefánik.
